In her NYC apartment in December 2012, Tamara decided to try her hand at making soy candles as gifts. Over time, she grew very passionate about “fragrance mix- ology” and using safe, sustainable ingredients.
Tamara first launched Brooklyn Candle Studio in September 2013 to sell her wares, and soon became overwhelmed by the amount of orders that flowed in spurred by rave reviews and word of mouth.
The small batch deliciously scented candles hand-poured out of her sunny Brooklyn studio are a nod to 19th century apothecaries and the spirit of the lovingly handcrafted. Simple and modern with a hint of vintage charm, they are made with 100% soy, lead-free cotton wicks, essential oils, and premium grade fragrance oils.
Her scents are inspired by nature and trav- el—a crisp mountain top, an early morning walk in the woods, floating on ocean waves in the hot sun.
She thinks of our wares as full sensory experiences—from the artful minimal packaging to the warm candlelight they provide to the delicate aromas that fill a room.
Production is kept small and simple: candles are poured by her small team of four in batches of 9 or 10. Each candle, from wick- ing to pouring to labeling, is created with the utmost care. Her candles are preservative-free and made with 100% soy wax derived from American-grown soy beans for an eco-friendly, clean burn. They use lead-free cotton core wicks primed with vegetable based wax, essential oils, and phthalate free premium grade fragrance.
The entire process is very meditative for me.
